Lifetime Achievement Award: 2017
Share |

The Randy A. Fisher Lifetime Achievement Award has been established to honor the work of Randy Fisher who was selected the first Executive Director of SSWAA and served from 2001-2006.  Randy led our organization during its fledgling years and witnessed a tremendous growth in membership.  During his final year as Executive Director, SSWAA had over 3,300 members -- quite an accomplishment for an organization that only began in 1994! The award will continue to be given in his honor at subsequent conferences.  His spirit and passion for School Social Work will live on for many years to come.

2017 Awardees:  Dr. Michelle Alvarez, Southern New Hampshire University

March 24, 2017

Dr. Alvarez was nominated by Dr. Andy Frey, Professor at the University of Louisville. Dr. Alvarez was a school social worker in Florida as well as a school social work supervisor in Indiana. She has taught and advocated for school social work at the University of Southern Indiana (5 years) and at Minnesota State University. Michelle has over 40 publications, 38 of which relate to school social work. The publications include 6 books. Michelle has presented at local school districts, state conferences, regional conferences, and national conferences. She has presented at all but two SSWAA conferences since 2000. Michelle has held some type of leadership position in every job she has held for the past 30 years. The positions range from volunteering to chair committees in Pinellas County Florida, to directing the school social work specialization at the University of southern Indiana and her recent work on the SSWAA board as a member and as President. Her most significant contributions, she would say, have not been accomplished alone but as a member of a group that was committed to the field of school social work.

Thank you for your years of dedication to the profession of
School Social Work and SSWAA!
